December 16..A rare event in Windies Cricket

West Indies reached the finals of the Akai-singer Champions trophy by beating India in the last match of the group stages on 16-Dec-1997.

Well the significance of the victory is bigger. More so because, not a single West Indies fast bowler took a wicket in the match when India were actually bowled out for 188 chasing 230. Courtney Walsh, Mervyn Dillon and Franklyn Rose couldn't do much with the ball on the day when the West Indian spinners showed India the way. Hooper claimed 4 wickets in the match. Rawl Lewis, a forgotten leg spinner took 1 wicket and guess who, claimed the other 3 ? It was Shivnaraine Chanderpaul :D :D :D

13 years into international cricket, it still remains Chanderpaul's best bowling figures.

A great day for West Indian cricket when all the big fast bowlers were shadowed by moments of brilliance from the spinners.

P.S.:- India were cruising @ 126-1 after 28 overs and soon after Dada's dismissal, India lost their plot against some intelligent spin bowling.
